| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Sergeant Major Alyssa Marie Michalke, who is assuming formal | ||
| command of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets on May 9, 2015; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This pioneering cadet is the first woman in the | ||
| Corps of Cadets to attain the rank of sergeant major, the highest | ||
| rank for any cadet who is not a senior, and she will assume her | ||
| new post as the first female corps commander in the school's | ||
| 139-year history; and | ||
| WHEREAS, During her three years with the corps, Sergeant | ||
| Major Michalke has demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities | ||
| and a selfless work ethic; she has been chosen to guide more than | ||
| 2,400 unit members, the largest Texas A&M Corps in 45 years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She has been recognized as a Distinguished | ||
| Student at the university, where she serves in numerous corps and | ||
| volunteer organizations; she is also a member of several academic | ||
| societies, including the National Honor Society for Chemical | ||
| Engineering and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine | ||
| Engineers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Michalke is an exemplary young | ||
| woman who is respected and admired by her peers, and she is indeed | ||
| deserving of recognition for her outstanding achievements; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Major Alyssa Marie Michalke | ||
| on her exceptional accomplishments and congratulate her on her | ||
| selection as the first woman to serve as commander of the Texas | ||
| A&M University Corps of Cadets; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
