Ruben Contreras | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Seguin in mourning the loss of Ruben "Rocky" | ||
Contreras, who died July 6, 2017, at the age of 80; and | ||
WHEREAS, Rocky Contreras was born on October 25, 1936, in | ||
San Marcos, where he became a standout Golden Gloves boxer; he | ||
went on to serve the nation with distinction as a member of the | ||
United States Marine Corps; and | ||
WHEREAS, After his military service, he moved to Seguin, | ||
where he was a successful businessman and public servant; he was | ||
the owner of Rocky's Drive In Grocery Store and the Barber Shop | ||
next door, and he represented District I on the Seguin City | ||
Council for 26 years; as a councilmember, he was instrumental in | ||
bringing numerous infrastructure improvements to the city; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Contreras also established the Seguin Boxing | ||
Club, where he trained young boxers, and he was an active member | ||
of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 61; and | ||
WHEREAS, He and his beloved wife of 54 years, Kathy | ||
Contreras, were blessed with a son, Carl, and four grandchildren, | ||
Carlos, Elan, Kierdis, and Chaylyne; and | ||
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he | ||
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued | ||
counsel will not be forgotten; and | ||
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, | ||
and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by his | ||
family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences | ||
to the bereaved family of Ruben Contreras; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Ruben Contreras. | ||
