SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 527
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Bennett Tubbs for his pioneering work in bus transportation
  services; and
         WHEREAS, Bennett Tubbs is the president and owner of BET
  Services, Incorporated, an umbrella corporation serving as an
  independent agent for Greyhound bus transportation services; he
  was the first African American to own an independent Trailways
  agency in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Tubbs began his professional career while in
  high school by serving as a part-time porter for
  Greyhound-Trailways in Forrest City, Arkansas; during his
  studies at Philander Smith College, he continued to work
  part-time for the company, and in 1971, he was promoted to
  night ticket agent and accounting clerk, making him the first
  African American to sell bus tickets in Arkansas; and
         WHEREAS, After his college graduation, he moved to Dallas,
  where he was hired as an internal auditor for the Trailways
  corporate office and became only the second African American in
  the country to hold that position in the company; and
         WHEREAS, In 1979, he became the owner of BET Services,
  Incorporated, an independent Trailways agency which became a
  part of Greyhound in 1985; in the years since he acquired the
  agency, its revenues have increased more than tenfold, and he has
  instituted such initiatives as offering charge accounts to
  trucking companies; it is truly fitting that he receive special
  recognition for his many accomplishments in the transportation
  industry; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend Bennett Tubbs on his exceptional
  achievements and extend to him best wishes for continued success
  in all his endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
