Myrcel Britton |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Myrtle Cecil "Myrcel" Woodcock Britton, |
|
who died August 16, 2021, at the age of 101; and |
|
WHEREAS, Myrcel Woodcock was born in Parsons, Kansas, on |
|
July 19, 1920; she grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, where she had |
|
the opportunity to meet both Thomas Edison and Henry Ford and to |
|
attend a dance school underwritten by Mr. Ford; and |
|
WHEREAS, Myrcel later moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where |
|
she was an active member of Forrest Avenue Baptist Church; her |
|
many responsibilities there included serving as a Sunday school |
|
teacher, as president of the Ypsilanti Child Study Club, and as a |
|
member of the church Hostess Committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, Myrcel married Fred J. Britton, and in 1965, they |
|
moved to Paris, Texas; she became an active member of the First |
|
Baptist Church and enjoyed teaching Sunbeams; after Fred's |
|
death, she moved to Beaumont and joined the Westgate Memorial |
|
Baptist Church congregation; she later settled in Burnet and |
|
Marble Falls, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church |
|
Marble Falls; and |
|
WHEREAS, Wherever she resided, this esteemed community |
|
leader gave generously of her time to local civic organizations |
|
and was a loyal member of her local Republican Party; she loved |
|
gardening and entertaining, and she used her skills as a knitter |
|
and quilter to bring joy to new parents, wounded soldiers, and |
|
the elderly; she also supported many missionary families over the |
|
years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Myrcel Britton was a devoted mother to three |
|
children, and she was blessed with three grandchildren and two |
|
great-grandchildren; she practiced her faith joyfully and was |
|
known for her selflessness, and she will long be remembered with |
|
fondness and admiration by all who were blessed to share in her |
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Myrtle Cecil Woodcock |
|
Britton; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Myrcel Britton. |
