WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Jesusa F. Gomez, who died August 19, | ||
2021, at the age of 100; and | ||
WHEREAS, This treasured citizen was born in Yorktown, | ||
Texas, on August 12, 1921; she lost her mother at the young age of | ||
six, and she helped her father to raise her younger siblings; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jesusa shared a life of devotion with her | ||
husband, the late Valdemar Gomez; she raised their five children | ||
by loving example, and her 13 grandchildren and 19 | ||
great-grandchildren enriched her life immeasurably; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jesusa was admired by friends and loved ones for | ||
her intelligence and her many creative and artistic skills; she | ||
was an accomplished seamstress who made beautiful gowns for | ||
weddings and formal occasions, and she owned Jessie's Flower Shop | ||
for many years; she was also known as an amazing cook, and her | ||
family most especially enjoyed her capirotada, tamales, | ||
empanadas, and pan de polvo; and | ||
WHEREAS, An esteemed member of the community, Jesusa was | ||
politically active and was always ready to help a person in need; | ||
in 2003, she and Mr. Gomez were honored as the San Juan Man and | ||
Woman of the Year; and | ||
WHEREAS, Jesusa Gomez was a cherished matriarch and a | ||
woman of grace and charm; she was beloved by many, and she leaves | ||
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were | ||
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th | ||
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Jesusa F. Gomez; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Jesusa Gomez. |
