SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 380
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson, who died
  October 23, 2016, at the age of 94; and
         WHEREAS, Rosa Lea was born on March 20, 1922, in Hereford,
  to Walter and Buna Fullwood; her father was a pioneering aviator
  and taught his children to fly at young ages; Rosa Lea made her
  first solo flight at the age of 12 or 13; she received her private
  pilot's license in 1940 and her commercial pilot's license in
  1942; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of McAllen High School and McAllen
  Business College, she served the nation with distinction as a
  member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II;
  she flew several types of military aircraft, including the famous
  P-51 fighter plane; and
         WHEREAS, She married the late Carl D. Meek Sr. in 1945;
  they helped establish the Kerrville Flying Service and later
  owned Meek Motors and Meek Real Estate; she went on to be a Mooney
  Aircraft dealer and the owner of Rosa Lea Realty; and
         WHEREAS, After the death of her first husband, she married
  the late Arthur P. Dickerson in 1988; her large and loving
  extended family was a source of much pride and joy for her; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she
  gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit,
  and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her life; and
         WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,
  and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by
  her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson.
