Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and | ||
commemorates the life of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson, who died | ||
October 23, 2016, at the age of 94; and | ||
WHEREAS, Rosa Lea was born on March 20, 1922, in Hereford, | ||
to Walter and Buna Fullwood; her father was a pioneering aviator | ||
and taught his children to fly at young ages; Rosa Lea made her | ||
first solo flight at the age of 12 or 13; she received her private | ||
pilot's license in 1940 and her commercial pilot's license in | ||
1942; and | ||
WHEREAS, A graduate of McAllen High School and McAllen | ||
Business College, she served the nation with distinction as a | ||
member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II; | ||
she flew several types of military aircraft, including the famous | ||
P-51 fighter plane; and | ||
WHEREAS, She married the late Carl D. Meek Sr. in 1945; | ||
they helped establish the Kerrville Flying Service and later | ||
owned Meek Motors and Meek Real Estate; she went on to be a Mooney | ||
Aircraft dealer and the owner of Rosa Lea Realty; and | ||
WHEREAS, After the death of her first husband, she married | ||
the late Arthur P. Dickerson in 1988; her large and loving | ||
extended family was a source of much pride and joy for her; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her generous spirit, | ||
and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be | ||
forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her life; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by | ||
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Rosa Lea Meek Dickerson. | ||
