SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 379
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Officer Jerod Daniel and Officer Cory Davis of the
Abilene Police Department, who are recipients of the prestigious
  Medal of Valor; and
WHEREAS, Both of these exceptional officers received
Medals of Valor for their bravery and quick thinking in saving
the life of an Abilene woman whose house was on fire; and
WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of October 6, 2016,
Officer Daniel smelled smoke while on routine patrol in South
Abilene; upon investigation, he discovered a duplex on fire and
immediately called for backup and went to the duplex to check for
  occupants; and
WHEREAS, Officer Davis was the second to arrive on the
scene, and he began to spray the interior of the duplex with water
from a garden hose; Officer Daniel discovered Marjorie Pardue
lying unconscious on the floor, and while trying to remove her
from the house, he became entangled in debris; Officer Davis then
provided much needed assistance and helped guide the two to
  safety; and
WHEREAS, Thanks to the decisive actions of Officer Daniel
and Officer Davis, Marjorie Pardue's life was saved, and despite
the severity of her burns, she is expected to recover from her
injuries; their selfless deeds stand as an example to all and
these exemplary peace officers are truly deserving of special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
