Gwendolyn Diane Hargrove | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Gwendolyn Diane | ||
Hargrove, who died February 6, 2011, at the age of 64; and | ||
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Diane Hargrove was born November 22, 1946, | ||
in Oakdale, Louisiana, to Dora Flemming and Arthur Hargrove; a | ||
graduate of Southern University, she earned a master's degree | ||
from Prairie View A&M University and pursued additional studies | ||
at the University of North Texas; and | ||
WHEREAS, She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in public | ||
service; she worked for many years for the City of Dallas, | ||
serving as a project director for the Youth Development Program | ||
in the Department of Human Services and lending her remarkable | ||
talents to area residents at the Martin Luther King Recreation | ||
Center and the Rhoads Terrace Recreation Center; and | ||
WHEREAS, In the late 1970s, she began volunteering for the | ||
Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters as a stage manager for | ||
various productions; she joined the academy as a full-time | ||
employee in 1994 and worked on such nationally recognized shows | ||
as the Dallas Arts Gala and the Black Music and the Civil Rights | ||
Movement series of concerts; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was active in community affairs and played an | ||
important role in numerous organizations, including the Dallas | ||
Black Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Urban League, and the | ||
Dallas County Community College District; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and boundless | ||
energy, she gave unselfishly to others, and her wisdom, her | ||
generous spirit, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the | ||
fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving extended | ||
family, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured | ||
forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Gwendolyn Diane Hargrove; | ||
and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of | ||
Gwen Hargrove. | ||
