Bernice Marie DeWese | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the | ||
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Bernice Marie | ||
DeWese, who died June 13, 2011, at the age of 90; and | ||
WHEREAS, Bernice Marie DeWese was born October 11, 1920, in | ||
San Antonio; she met James DeWese while dining at his family's | ||
restaurant, DeWese's Tip Top Café, in 1945, and they were married | ||
the next year; and | ||
WHEREAS, Following their marriage, Mrs. DeWese worked at | ||
the restaurant for a short time before devoting herself to | ||
raising their three children; she returned to the café in the | ||
1970s and became a major force in its success, performing every | ||
task vital to ensure its smooth operation, including waiting | ||
tables, running the cash register, and hiring employees; and | ||
WHEREAS, For three decades, she dedicated her life to | ||
maintaining the restaurant's family atmosphere and | ||
patron-friendly environment; her genuine concern for people led | ||
her to create a work environment that made employees feel like | ||
they were members of her family; and | ||
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she | ||
gave unselfishly to others, and her generosity, her impressive | ||
work ethic, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest | ||
will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in her | ||
life; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere | ||
condolences to the bereaved family of Bernice Marie DeWese: her | ||
daughters, Linda DeWese and Loretta Hettler; and her two | ||
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of | ||
Bernice Marie DeWese. | ||
