Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Piers Lawrence Depeyster Chance, who |
|
died June 4, 2013, at the age of 73; and |
|
WHEREAS, Piers Chance was born August 26, 1939, in Epsom, |
|
England; he came to this country during World War II and grew up |
|
in Asheville, North Carolina, where he graduated from Lee H. |
|
Edwards High School and attended the University of North Carolina |
|
at Asheville; he served the nation with distinction with the |
|
United States Marine Corps; and |
|
WHEREAS, He married Carolyn Ann Young in 1965, and the |
|
couple began their new life together in Texas; they raised a |
|
daughter, Chelsea Starr, and they were blessed with three |
|
grandchildren, Joel, Ashley, and Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Chance enjoyed a long and productive career in |
|
the commercial real estate industry as a broker and certified |
|
property manager; he worked with a wide variety of companies and |
|
on a number of high-profile projects, including Equitable Life |
|
Assurance and One Main Place, Bass Brothers Enterprises and |
|
Sundance Square, and Lincoln Property Company and the Bank of |
|
America Corporate Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was active in such community organizations as |
|
the Lions Club and served on the Colleyville City Council and the |
|
Colleyville Zoning and Planning Board; he was a faithful member |
|
of Saint Vincent's Cathedral, where he served as a vestry member, |
|
lay reader, and school board member; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and he was deeply cherished and will |
|
long be remembered for his winning smile, the happiness he |
|
brought to others, and the enthusiasm with which he lived each |
|
day to the fullest; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Piers Lawrence Depeyster |
|
Chance; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Piers Chance. |
