A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment exempting this state from |
|
daylight saving time. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
adding Section 74 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 74. The state, acting under the exemption provisions |
|
of Section 3(a), Uniform Time Act of 1966 (15 U.S.C. Section |
|
260a(a)), is exempt from the provisions of that law that establish |
|
daylight saving time. The exemption provided by this section |
|
applies to both the portion of the state using central standard time |
|
as the official standard time and the portion of the state using |
|
mountain standard time as the official standard time. |
|
SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to |
|
the Texas Constitution: |
|
TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies |
|
to the constitutional amendment proposed by the 87th Legislature, |
|
Regular Session, 2021, exempting this state from the provisions of |
|
federal law that establish daylight saving time. |
|
(b) The constitutional amendment takes effect March 1, |
|
2022. |
|
(c) This temporary provision takes effect on the adoption of |
|
the constitutional amendment by the voters and expires September 1, |
|
2022. |
|
SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 2021. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment exempting this state |
|
from daylight saving time." |
