| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. The heading to Subchapter B, Chapter 157, | ||
| Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows: | ||
| SUBCHAPTER B. DELEGATION TO ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES, | ||

| SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 157, Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 157.061 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 157.061. DELEGATION TO CERTAIN ANESTHESIOLOGIST | ||
| ASSISTANTS. (a) In a licensed hospital or ambulatory surgical | ||
| center, a supervising physician who is an anesthesiologist may | ||
| delegate the administration and provision of an anesthetic or an | ||
| anesthesia-related service ordered by the supervising physician to | ||
| an anesthesiologist assistant who: | ||
| (1) has passed the Certifying Examination for | ||
| Anesthesiologist Assistants administered by the National | ||
| Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the | ||
| commission's successor entity; and | ||
| (2) holds a certificate issued by the National | ||
| Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants or the | ||
| commission's successor entity. | ||
| (b) The supervising physician's order for an anesthetic or | ||
| an anesthesia-related service is not required to specify a drug, | ||
| dose, or administration technique. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
