| relating to the procedure for making any change from any voting | ||
| standard, practice, or procedure authorized by the Election Code. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Election Code, is amended by adding | ||
| Section 1.022 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1.022. ALTERATIONS TO VOTING STANDARD, PRACTICE, OR | ||
| PROCEDURE. An election official of the state or of a political | ||
| subdivision may not create, alter or suspend any voting standard, | ||
| practice, or procedure in a manner not expressly authorized by the | ||
| this code. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2021 and applies to any election held | ||
| after that date. | ||
