A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to newborn screening. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 33, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 33.00211 to read as follows: |
|
|
33.00211. DUCHENE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY. Notwithstanding any |
|
|
provision of this chapter, the department shall include Duchenne |
|
|
muscular dystrophy in the detection and treatment program |
|
|
established under this chapter, in the screening for heritable |
|
|
diseases conducted under Subchapter B, and in the newborn screening |
|
|
services provided under Subchapter C. |
|
|
SECTION 12. As soon as practicable after the effective date |
|
|
of this Act, the Department of State Health Services shall |
|
|
implement Section 33.00211, Health and Safety Code. |
|
|
SECTION 13. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
