relating to the precedence of election contests in district and | ||
appellate courts. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 231.009, Election Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
Sec. 231.009. PRECEDENCE OF ELECTION CONTEST [ |

An election contest has precedence in the district and appellate | ||
courts and shall be disposed of as expeditiously as practicable. A | ||
court must to the extent reasonably possible ensure that the action | ||
is brought to final disposition before the expiration of the term of | ||
the contested office. | ||
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
to an election contest filed on or after the effective date of this | ||
Act. An election contest filed before the effective date of this Act | ||
is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the | ||
effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for | ||
that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
