R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Residents of Lubbock are mourning the loss of
  admired restaurateur Dwayne Clanton, who passed away on July 15,
  2017, at the age of 62; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Bettye Nelle Baker Clanton and Tommy John
  "TJ" Clanton, Dwayne Clanton was born on December 20, 1954; he grew
  up as the third of five children and adored his brother, Alvin, and
  his sisters, Rebecca, Brenda, and Melinda; when he was only seven,
  he began working at the family business, Tom and Bingo's Hickory Pit
  Bar-B-Q, where he stood on a pickle bucket to chop onions; he also
  helped out on the family farm, taking care of rabbits, exotic birds,
  a large garden, and the feed store; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Clanton excelled as an athlete at Monterey High
  School, playing on the football team and helping the baseball team
  to capture its first state championship; in 2015, the team was
  inducted into the Lubbock ISD Athletic Hall of Honor; he went on to
  study horticulture at Texas Tech University but with 16 credits
  left to complete, he decided to leave college to become pit master
  for Tom and Bingo's; his tremendous work ethic helped the business
  flourish, and he eventually took on ownership of the restaurant,
  which was twice named one of the "50 Best Bar-B-Que Joints in Texas"
  by Texas Monthly magazine; over the years, it received accolades
  from many other publications as well, and his famous BBQ sauce,
  which is sold in grocery stores, was a finalist in the 2015 H-E-B
  Primo Picks Quest for Texas Best; and
         WHEREAS, On August 12, 1989, Mr. Clanton married the love of
  his life, the former Liz Lawson, and he became a devoted father to
  her daughter, Heather; the couple later became the parents of
  another treasured daughter, Kristi, and in 2015, their family grew
  to include a granddaughter, Stella Ray; Mr. Clanton was an avid
  outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, fishing, boating, and hunting; and
         WHEREAS, Although Dwayne Clanton is deeply missed, memories
  of his warmth, kindness, and dedication to his family remain to
  comfort and inspire those he has left behind; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Dwayne Clanton and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dwayne
  Clanton.
