R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Port Neches–Groves High School baseball team
  reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2017 University
  Interscholastic League 5A state championship on June 10 at the Dell
  Diamond in Round Rock; and
         WHEREAS, After claiming the District 22 and Region 3 5A
  titles, the Indians embarked on a thrilling postseason run,
  defeating teams from Humble, Manvel, Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill,
  Tomball, and Brenham High Schools before earning a victory over
  Frisco Wakeland High School in the semifinal round of the state
  tournament; with that triumph, they set up a showdown against
  Grapevine High School in the championship game; and
         WHEREAS, In the title contest, the Indians took an early lead
  with a pair of runs in the first inning, and they maintained their
  momentum with a strong hitting performance and with solid pitching
  and defense throughout the game, ultimately claiming a 4-2 win and
  securing the state championship crown for the first time in the
  school's history; and
         WHEREAS, Posting an impressive overall record of 34 wins, 8
  losses, and 2 ties, the Indians received valuable contributions
  throughout the year from each member of the roster: Carson
  Roccaforte, Courtland Sullivan, Jacob Vaughan, Hayden Guerra, Zach
  Deckert, Cameron Stansbury, Dylan McGough, Logan Lejeune, Nathan
  Vidrine, Austin Bost, Alec LeBouef, Brandon Petix, Braxton Boudoin,
  Cameron Abate, Jamison Simmons, Zach Murdock, Trevor Martin, Hunter
  Curtis, Austin Schaper, Zach White, Holden Lane, Brandon Morse, and
  Josh Hranicky; the team was guided by head coach Scott Carter and
  assistant coaches Norm Abshere, Chris McKeller, and Kane Segura;
  and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
  commitment to excellence, and the talented student-athletes of the
  Port Neches–Groves High School baseball team may indeed reflect
  with pride on their remarkable accomplishment; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Port
  Neches–Groves High School baseball team on winning the 2017 UIL 5A
  state championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and
  staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
