R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mario G. Medina of San Antonio is retiring from the |
|
Texas Department of Transportation in 2013, drawing to a close a |
|
notable career with that agency that has spanned nearly three |
|
decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Laredo, Mr. Medina earned his bachelor's |
|
degree in civil engineering from The University of Texas at Austin |
|
in 1986, but he began his career with TxDOT while he was still a |
|
student, working five summers in the Laredo area office; after his |
|
graduation, he joined the agency full-time and worked with the |
|
design division until 2002, when he became a manager in the |
|
consultant contract office; he went on to serve as multimodal |
|
section director in the transportation planning and programming |
|
division, working on railroad planning and safety, pedestrian and |
|
bicycle planning, and state sponsorship of the Gulf Intracoastal |
|
Waterway; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2006, Mr. Medina became the district engineer in |
|
Laredo, where he was responsible for a variety of transportation |
|
projects in an eight-county area, including the initiation of the |
|
US 83-SH 359 interchange, the completion of the Cuatro Vientos |
|
project, and the expansion of Loop 20; he has served as district |
|
engineer for the 12-county San Antonio district since 2008, and |
|
during his exemplary tenure in that post, he has worked with local |
|
stakeholders to complete the Loop 410 expansion, helped finalize |
|
the Wurzbach Parkway, and helped to develop a plan for a toll road, |
|
as well as played an instrumental role in numerous other projects; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Medina has enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife, Janet, and his children, Gray, Derek, |
|
and Marisa; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mario Medina's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to the ideals and mission of TxDOT have greatly |
|
benefited the people of Texas, and he may indeed reflect with pride |
|
on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of |
|
his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Mario G. |
|
Medina on his retirement from the Texas Department of |
|
Transportation and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Medina as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
