| WHEREAS, Las Comadres Para Las Americas is a Latina | ||
| organization dedicated to the goal of connecting and empowering | ||
| women to be more actively engaged in Hispanic communities around | ||
| the world; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The organization grew out of the grassroots efforts | ||
| of a small group of women in Austin, who began exchanging | ||
| information about job openings, housing, and community building for | ||
| the benefit of other women; in April 2000, the local Austin Las | ||
| Comadres was founded by Elizabeth Garcia and Veronica Rivera as an | ||
| informal face-to-face gathering, and it went on to evolve into a | ||
| thriving national and international online community through the | ||
| leadership and technological expertise of Nora de Hoyos Comstock | ||
| and her husband, Jack Bell; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Ms. Comstock, its president | ||
| and CEO, Las Comadres Para Las Americas today boasts more than | ||
| 10,000 members across many cities and countries; members of the | ||
| organization meet monthly to cultivate friendships and connections | ||
| with other Latinas, and they endeavor to support one another online | ||
| and offline with the sharing of news, information, and | ||
| inspirational stories while also taking part in dialogues on | ||
| education, employment, culture, and other topics; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since its inception, Las Comadres Para Las Americas | ||
| has greatly benefited the personal and professional lives of | ||
| countless women, and it is a pleasure to recognize its members for | ||
| their commitment to the success of the organization and to each | ||
| other; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor Las Comadres Para Las | ||
| Americas and extend to its membership sincere best wishes for the | ||
| future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
