R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Medal of Honor exhibit at the State Capitol in
Austin is being expanded to include recognition of recipients of
the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor, the state's highest military
  award; and
WHEREAS, In November 2014, the State Preservation Board
opened Above and Beyond: The Medal of Honor in Texas on the ground
floor of the State Capitol; this handsome exhibition features 91
winners of the Medal of Honor who were born or who entered service
in Texas; supplementing the physical display is the Capitol's

QR code with a smartphone or other mobile device and access
additional information via the Internet about each Medal of Honor
winner, including images, video, and text; and
WHEREAS, In the near future, the recipients of the Texas
Legislative Medal of Honor will also be featured in the
exhibition's digital component; the Legislative Medal of Honor is
awarded to a member of the federal or state armed forces who was
born or who has resided in the state and who has demonstrated
"extraordinary merit," "voluntarily perform[ing] a deed of
personal bravery or self-sacrifice involving risk of life that is
so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the service member for
gallantry and intrepidity"; the medal's recipients so far include
soldiers and marines who exhibited uncommon courage in combat
  during World War II, the Vietnam War, and the war in Afghanistan;
  and
WHEREAS, Eventually, tablet computers will be available at
the display in the Capitol, allowing visitors without mobile
devices to access the digital component; the State Preservation
Board is also updating its website to incorporate this same
information, which will later become part of a comprehensive
digital app; in time, the section about the Texas Legislative Medal
of Honor will include video of recipients or their families
receiving the medal from the Texas Legislature, as well as
interviews with recipients, their families, and sponsoring
  legislators; and
WHEREAS, This exciting, state-of-the-art initiative by the
State Preservation Board will allow visitors to the Capitol and
people around the world the opportunity to learn the history of the
Texas Legislative Medal of Honor and the inspiring stories of its
recipients, and it helps pay proper tribute to those brave members
of our armed forces who have earned that notable accolade; now,
