WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas | ||
have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and | ||
workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives | ||
in the pandemic was Harold Smith, a dedicated and well-respected | ||
correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, | ||
who passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 77; and | ||
WHEREAS, Officer Smith was a valued member of the staff of the | ||
Jordan Unit for five and a half years; a dedicated public servant, | ||
he joined the Department of Criminal Justice following his | ||
retirement as an inspector with the Texas Department of | ||
Transportation; and | ||
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Smith took great pride in | ||
his four children and seven grandchildren and loved to spend time | ||
with them; an active individual, he benefited youth in the town of | ||
Panhandle as a scoutmaster for Troop 501, and in his free time, he | ||
loved to read about railroads; he was a great conversationalist and | ||
a good listener as well, qualities that never failed to brighten the | ||
workday for his colleagues; and | ||
WHEREAS, Harold Smith faithfully and ably performed his | ||
duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal | ||
Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all | ||
who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of | ||
Harold Smith and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, | ||
and colleagues; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold | ||
Smith. |
