R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Avery Hunter Martinez was elected external vice
  president of the Texas Tech Student Government Association in March
  2017; and
         WHEREAS, In this important office, Ms. Martinez is
  responsible for representing the university's students in
  discussions with various organizations and government entities,
  including the City of Lubbock, the State of Texas, the United States
  government, and the Texas Tech Alumni Association; and
         WHEREAS, An Austin native, Ms. Martinez graduated in 2014
  from Westlake High School, and she enrolled at Texas Tech that same
  year; while working toward a bachelor's degree in political
  science, she has played a prominent role in the Student Government
  Association; she previously served as chair and vice chair of the
  group's Senator-at-Large Committee, as class vice president, as
  vice president of external affairs, and as a member of the
  Scholarship Committee and the Tech-to-Town program; moreover, she
  was selected as the 2016-2017 Senator of the Year and a 2015-2016
  Top 10 Senator; a member of the Phi Eta chapter of Delta Delta Delta
  Sorority, she has contributed to the organization as chair of
  activities, as vice president of membership, and as a member of the
  Delta Singers; and
         WHEREAS, The leadership, dedication, and perseverance that
  Avery Martinez has demonstrated in pursuit of her goals have won her
  the respect and admiration of her peers, and her accomplishments
  herald a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Avery Hunter
  Martinez on being elected external vice president of the Texas Tech
  Student Government Association and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued achievement; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
