R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The iconic boot company Lucchese Bootmaker is |
|
celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1883, Salvatore and Joseph Lucchese, the sons of |
|
an Italian shoemaker, settled in San Antonio and established a shop |
|
to make boots for the U.S. Cavalry school at Fort Sam Houston; the |
|
business flourished, and in 1910, it recorded its first |
|
international customer; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1929, four months after the death of Salvatore |
|
Lucchese, Lucchese was incorporated by president S. L. Gill, vice |
|
president, and son of Salvatore, Cosimo Lucchese, and secretary |
|
M. Millken; and |
|
WHEREAS, Early customers included Robert J. Kleberg Sr. of |
|
the famed King Ranch, General Frank Purdy Lahm, the U.S. Army's |
|
first certified pilot, and Charles Kreuz Sr., founder of the famous |
|
Kreuz Market barbecue restaurant; then-vice president-elect Lyndon |
|
B. Johnson gave Lucchese boots to Caroline Kennedy, daughter of |
|
then-president-elect John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy, and he |
|
was photographed wearing Lucchese boots on his ranch as president |
|
in 1968; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lucchese operations moved to El Paso in 1986; more |
|
recently, Lucchese has raised its profile through partnerships with |
|
the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and the athletics departments of |
|
Texas A&M University and The University of Texas; in addition, it |
|
made the boots for State Fair of Texas icon Big Tex; the company |
|
currently operates 20 stores, 15 of which are in the Lone Star |
|
State; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of 140 years, Lucchese has built a |
|
loyal following across the country and beyond its borders while |
|
contributing significantly to the prosperity of Texas, attaining |
|
the status of a treasured institution; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Lucchese Bootmaker on its 140th |
|
anniversary and extend to all those associated with the company |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
