R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Shanty Zumaya, a fifth-grade student at Corina Peña
  Elementary School in Penitas, has earned great distinction for
  herself and her hometown by advancing to the finals of the third
  season of La Voz Kids; and
         WHEREAS, La Voz Kids, which airs on Telemundo, is a junior
  version of the American singing competition The Voice in which
  contestants vie for a five-year recording contract and a $50,000
  cash prize supporting their education; invited to participate in
  the program in January 2015, Shanty impressed all three judges on
  the panel and ultimately chose Mexican singer and actor Pedro
  Fernández as her vocal coach; the final round begins on May 2 and
  will consist of 18 young contestants; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Penitas, Shanty is the daughter
  of Osmin and Maria Zumaya and the sister of two brothers, Samir and
  Angel; her father has played an especially significant role in
  nurturing her gifts since she began singing when she was just four
  years old; she has gone on to perform at the Penitas White Wing
  Festival and La Posada de Ramon Ayala, and she has served as an
  opening act for such artists as La Mafia, Los Traileros, Michael
  Salgado, and Intocable; and
         WHEREAS, With her spectacular showing, Shanty Zumaya has
  demonstrated poise and musical talent befitting a rising star, and
  she is a source of tremendous pride to her family and community
  alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Shanty Zumaya on her selection as a
  finalist on La Voz Kids and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Zumaya as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
