R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the San Antonio chapter of the AFL-CIO
  are observing Workers' Memorial Day and the 44th anniversary of the
  establishment of the Occupational Safety and Health Act on April
  28, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Signed into law by President Richard Nixon in 1970,
  the Occupational Safety and Health Act went into effect the
  following year on April 28; over the decades, the landmark
  legislation has impacted the lives of countless private sector and
  government employees, preventing work-related injuries, illnesses,
  and fatalities by providing training and implementing workplace
  health and safety standards; and
         WHEREAS, Workers' Memorial Day is an internationally
  recognized day of remembrance for men and women who have been
  injured or killed while performing their jobs; with this year's
  theme of "Mourn for the Dead, Fight for the Living," this occasion
  provides a solemn reminder of the crucial need to make workplaces
  safer; and
         WHEREAS, The AFL-CIO represents 56 national and
  international labor unions with a combined membership of 12.5
  million people; dedicated to advocacy and grassroots organizing,
  the San Antonio chapter has greatly advanced the federation's
  mission of safeguarding workers' rights, improving safety and
  health regulations, protecting employees who report workplace
  violations, and promoting the rights to organize and earn a decent
  wage; and
         WHEREAS, Workers in every field can safely perform their jobs
  if they receive the necessary training and equipment and if the
  highest standards of safety are upheld, and it is imperative that
  employers, employees, and organizations across the Lone Star State
  and the country work together to ensure that worker safety receives
  the attention and support that it deserves; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the San Antonio chapter of the AFL-CIO for
  its significant efforts in behalf of area workers and commemorate
  its celebration of Workers' Memorial Day 2015 and the 44th
  anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
