R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Justin Jackson of Tomball enjoyed an unforgettable
  season with the University of North Carolina men's basketball team
  that culminated in a resounding victory at the 2017 NCAA national
  championship on April 3 in Glendale, Arizona; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Lloyd and Sharon Jackson, Justin Jackson
  is currently majoring in exercise and sport science at UNC; the
  junior forward-guard has played for the Tar Heels during three
  consecutive seasons, collecting a total of 1,626 points, 481
  rebounds, and 314 assists; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson was a vital member of the team
  throughout the 2016-2017 regular season, helping it compile an
  impressive record of 27 wins and only 7 losses en route to the NCAA
  Tournament; he continued to dazzle in the postseason and piloted
  his squad to victories over Texas Southern University, the
  University of Arkansas, Butler University, the University of
  Kentucky, and the University of Oregon to reach the finals against
  Gonzaga University; and
         WHEREAS, In the nail-biter title contest, UNC was evenly
  matched throughout the opening half but trailed its opponent 35-32
  at intermission; the Tar Heels came roaring back in the second
  frame, and they overpowered Gonzaga on both sides of the ball to
  clinch the national crown by a final score of 71-65; Mr. Jackson
  contributed 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists to his team's
  impressive win; and
         WHEREAS, In tribute to his dominance all season long,
  Mr. Jackson earned All-America First Team honors and was selected
  as the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, and this
  talented athlete now plans to enter the 2017 NBA Draft; and
         WHEREAS, Demonstrating hard work, fine sportsmanship, and an
  unwavering commitment to excellence along the way, Justin Jackson
  capped a storybook season with a triumph that secured his place in
  the annals of college basketball, and his remarkable achievements
  are a source of great pride to his fellow Texans; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Justin Jackson on helping the
  University of North Carolina men's basketball team win the 2017
  NCAA national championship and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
