| WHEREAS, The members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg | ||
| celebrated the 60th anniversary of their church's founding on July | ||
| 16, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Established in 1954 as a mission of First Baptist | ||
| Church of Pittsburg, this notable house of worship became an | ||
| independent entity on August 18, 1957; the congregation continued | ||
| to meet in the mission building on Mattison Street until 1963, when | ||
| it constructed a new sanctuary on Elm Street; after nearly half a | ||
| century there, the church moved to its current facility on Loop 179 | ||
| in 2012; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Since its founding, Emmanuel Baptist Church has | ||
| played a vital role in the community, offering its members myriad | ||
| opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; the church also | ||
| takes part in a number of area ministries, providing children with | ||
| clothing, school supplies, and backpacks and preparing | ||
| Thanksgiving baskets for families in need; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The congregation at Emmanuel Baptist has benefited | ||
| from the able leadership of a number of dedicated pastors over the | ||
| years, and today that tradition of service is continued by the | ||
| Reverend Kyle Smith, who assumed the pulpit in 2001; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Emmanuel Baptist Church has long served as a source | ||
| of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its | ||
| continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of | ||
| its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 60th | ||
| anniversary of Emmanuel Baptist Church and extend to the | ||
| congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
