R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pittsburg
  celebrated the 60th anniversary of their church's founding on July
  16, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1954 as a mission of First Baptist
  Church of Pittsburg, this notable house of worship became an
  independent entity on August 18, 1957; the congregation continued
  to meet in the mission building on Mattison Street until 1963, when
  it constructed a new sanctuary on Elm Street; after nearly half a
  century there, the church moved to its current facility on Loop 179
  in 2012; and
         WHEREAS, Since its founding, Emmanuel Baptist Church has
  played a vital role in the community, offering its members myriad
  opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; the church also
  takes part in a number of area ministries, providing children with
  clothing, school supplies, and backpacks and preparing
  Thanksgiving baskets for families in need; and
         WHEREAS, The congregation at Emmanuel Baptist has benefited
  from the able leadership of a number of dedicated pastors over the
  years, and today that tradition of service is continued by the
  Reverend Kyle Smith, who assumed the pulpit in 2001; and
         WHEREAS, Emmanuel Baptist Church has long served as a source
  of inspiration and guidance to those who worship there, and its
  continued existence is a testament to the unwavering commitment of
  its members and clergy, both past and present; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 60th
  anniversary of Emmanuel Baptist Church and extend to the
  congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
