WHEREAS, Lawrence Wells is celebrating the 50th anniversary | ||
of his licensure with the State Bar of Texas in May 2019, and this | ||
occasion provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on his long and | ||
accomplished career; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Tyler, Lawrence Wells graduated from | ||
John Tyler High School before continuing his education at the | ||
undergraduate and law schools of The University of Texas; he was | ||
first licensed with the State Bar on May 26, 1969, a few months | ||
after completing his studies at UT; he was subsequently admitted to | ||
practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, Texas federal district courts, | ||
and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, where he has argued numerous | ||
cases; earlier in his career, he served as an assistant U.S. | ||
attorney for the Eastern District of Texas in Tyler and as an | ||
assistant district attorney in Travis County; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Wells began his employment with the Office of | ||
the Attorney General of Texas on May 16, 1983, and over the past 36 | ||
years, he has served under five attorneys general, Jim Mattox, Dan | ||
Morales, John Cornyn, Greg Abbott, and Ken Paxton; during Jim | ||
Mattox's term from 1983 to 1991, Mr. Wells was the chief litigator | ||
in Ruiz v. Johnson, which concerned conditions of inmate | ||
confinement; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Wells has been blessed | ||
with the love and support of his wife, Roey Munoz; when he is not | ||
working, he enjoys caring for his pet horses and making kombucha at | ||
his home in Wimberley, and he is an aficionado of English common | ||
law, a cigar connoisseur, and a longtime practitioner of judo; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lawrence Wells has long distinguished himself with | ||
his professionalism, strong work ethic, and keen legal acumen, and | ||
the people of the State of Texas have been fortunate to benefit from | ||
his many years of exceptional public service; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby congratulate Lawrence Wells on the 50th | ||
anniversary of his licensure with the State Bar of Texas and extend | ||
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Wells as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
House of Representatives. | ||
