R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Maria Torres has served with distinction as
  Democratic Party precinct chair of Precinct 1054 in House District
  100 in Dallas County; and
         WHEREAS, Precinct chairs are integral to the success of their
  party's mission to elect public servants who will build a better
  state and nation for today's citizenry and for generations to come;
  and
         WHEREAS, Because public policy affects our daily lives,
  individuals must exercise their right to vote, and precinct chairs
  play an important role in the election process; their efforts to
  inspire voters to support their party's candidates are part of a
  proud and vital political tradition; and
         WHEREAS, It is most appropriate that we take this opportunity
  to recognize an outstanding Texan who has devoted time and energy
  toward promoting such goals of the Democratic Party as achieving
  economic equality, ensuring an affordable college education, and
  advancing a more just and inclusive society; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Maria Torres for serving as Democratic
  Party precinct chair of Precinct 1054 in Dallas County and extend to
  this dedicated community leader sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Maria Torres as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
