| WHEREAS, Sonia Segura was crowned Mrs. Texas at the pageant | ||
| conducted at the Palace Theatre in Corsicana on May 6, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Competing as Mrs. Greater Dallas County, Ms. Segura | ||
| was selected from among 48 delegates who participated in the | ||
| interview, swimsuit, and evening gown segments of the program; her | ||
| platform, the Butterfly Effect, involves helping others to fulfill | ||
| their dreams; in addition, she sets a positive example through her | ||
| efforts in behalf of a number of organizations, among them Girls | ||
| Incorporated, the Barefoot Foundation, and UNICEF; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Segura was born in Houston and grew up with four | ||
| siblings in a one-room house in Mexico; after graduating from | ||
| Universidad Autónoma De Guerrero, she returned to Texas and began | ||
| working as a certified teaching assistant; she also found | ||
| employment as a model and actress and appeared on such television | ||
| programs as the USA Network's Queen of the South; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Devoted to her family, Ms. Segura has shared a | ||
| fulfilling marriage of 15 years with her husband, Juan Pablo; they | ||
| are the proud parents of three children, Jesus, Marisol, and Sonia, | ||
| nicknamed "Soni"; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sonia Segura has demonstrated outstanding | ||
| dedication in pursuing her goals, and as she prepares to compete at | ||
| the national level in the Mrs. America pageant, she may indeed take | ||
| pride in her accomplishments; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Sonia Segura | ||
| on her selection as Mrs. Texas 2017 and extend to her sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Segura as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
