R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Hays Consolidated Independent School District
  celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding on May 6, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, The district was established in 1967 after county
  voters approved a measure to consolidate the Buda, Kyle, and
  Wimberley Independent School Districts; as the region's population
  has increased, Hays CISD has experienced dramatic growth, expanding
  from about 1,150 students across a handful of schools to nearly
  20,000 students at 23 campuses, including 2 four-year high schools,
  6 middle schools, 13 elementary schools, an alternative high
  school, and a disciplinary center; and
         WHEREAS, Through the decades, Hays CISD has remained
  steadfast in its mission to prepare students for the challenges and
  opportunities of the future, and today it boasts a graduation rate
  higher than the state average; the district offers an elementary
  magnet school STEM program and specialized career curricula, and
  both of its comprehensive high schools have earned Project Lead the
  Way designations for their efforts in encouraging students to
  pursue computer science, engineering, and biomedical science
  studies; and
         WHEREAS, Hays CISD students have also excelled in a wide
  range of extracurricular activities, garnering recognition in
  band, choir, visual and performing arts, and athletics; in
  addition, the district's Performing Arts Center features a
  state-of-the-art sound and video system, two conference rooms, and
  seating for nearly 1,000 people, and it hosts numerous productions
  and campus and community events year-round; and
         WHEREAS, Over the past half century, Hays CISD has provided
  generations of young Texans with a strong academic foundation on
  which to build, and it is indeed a privilege to join in marking this
  important milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Hays
  Consolidated Independent School District and extend to its
  administrators, faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
