R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso is |
|
celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, The origins of the district can be traced back to |
|
1915, when voters approved a $17,000 bond measure to build a school |
|
on the corner of Alameda Avenue and Harris Street; two years later, |
|
Ysleta Elementary School opened its doors to elementary and |
|
secondary students from the village of Ysleta; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1923, the San Jose, Texico, and Ysleta school |
|
districts combined to form the Ysleta Common School District, and a |
|
$30,000 bond measure was passed to fund the construction of a second |
|
school; the district was renamed the Ysleta Independent School |
|
District in 1937, and at the time it served a student population of |
|
2,000 at five campuses, including Ysleta High School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today the third-largest school district in the city |
|
of El Paso, Ysleta ISD encompasses 7 high schools, 11 middle |
|
schools, 37 elementary schools, 3 prekindergarten centers, and 6 |
|
special campuses, which together provide a supportive and |
|
innovative learning environment to more than 42,500 students; along |
|
with its growth in enrollment, the district has seen considerable |
|
progress in student achievement, and 10 of its campuses have been |
|
designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department |
|
of Education; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although the community has experienced a panorama of |
|
change over the past century, Ysleta ISD has remained steadfast in |
|
its commitment to high-quality public education, and this milestone |
|
is a fitting occasion to recognize the district's proud history and |
|
legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Ysleta |
|
Independent School District and extend to its students, faculty, |
|
and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
