WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the | ||
death of Doris Bhael Clements of Hideaway on December 6, 2014, at | ||
the age of 100; and | ||
WHEREAS, The former Dorothy Bhael was born in Beebe, | ||
Arkansas, on July 23, 1914, to Sam and Lola Bhael; she attended | ||
Paris Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Ulmon | ||
Clements; they were married on May 29, 1937, sharing nearly six | ||
decades until his passing in 1996; and | ||
WHEREAS, After college, Mrs. Clements became an accomplished | ||
dance instructor in Paris and Brownsville, specializing in tap, and | ||
she continued to enjoy dancing throughout her life; she and | ||
Mr. Clements published newspapers in Carthage and Lewisville for | ||
many years, a vocation through which they were afforded the | ||
opportunity to meet a number of prominent figures, including | ||
General Douglas MacArthur and Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon | ||
Johnson; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 1972, Mrs. Clements and her husband retired and | ||
moved to Hideaway; together they published the city's first | ||
newspaper, the Observer, and were instrumental in creating the | ||
Hideaway News; she was active in the community as a charter | ||
congregant of Hideaway Lake Community Church as well as a member of | ||
several bridge clubs; she also taught water aerobics until the age | ||
of 92 and regularly volunteered to aid worthy causes; and | ||
WHEREAS, Although Doris Clements is deeply missed, treasured | ||
memories of her quick wit and zest for life will long endure in the | ||
hearts of her family and friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Doris Bhael | ||
Clements and extend sincere condolences to the members of her | ||
family: to her nephew, Walter Clements; to her niece, Linda | ||
Clements Mathews; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, | ||
be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doris Bhael | ||
Clements. | ||
