R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Each Memorial Day, we join in remembering the |
|
sacrifices of the men and women who valiantly gave their lives in |
|
defense of our nation, and one such individual, U.S. Army Staff |
|
Sergeant Bryan Burgess, is among those to whom we owe a debt that |
|
can never be repaid; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Cleburne, Bryan Burgess was born on |
|
April 23, 1981, and was a member of Granbury Street Church of |
|
Christ; he played on the soccer, baseball, football, and track |
|
teams and belonged to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while a |
|
student at Cleburne High School; following his graduation in 1999, |
|
he went on to study at Hill College, and he was a member of the Texas |
|
State Guard; and |
|
WHEREAS, Determined to serve his country, this courageous |
|
young man began his military career in March 2003; over the course |
|
of his eight years in uniform, he distinguished himself during two |
|
tours of duty in Iraq; at the time of his death, he was completing |
|
his first assignment in Afghanistan as a member of the 2nd |
|
Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st |
|
Airborne Division (Air Assault); he was killed in combat in Kunar |
|
Province on March 28, 2011; and |
|
WHEREAS, The exemplary actions of Sergeant Burgess were |
|
recognized with numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star |
|
Medal, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak |
|
leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf |
|
cluster, and the Army Good Conduct Medal with double-knotted rope |
|
clasp; and |
|
WHEREAS, This caring husband and father was married to |
|
Tiffany Burgess and took great pride in his two children, Makya and |
|
Zander; in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf, riding |
|
motorcycles, and listening to the Beatles, and he took special |
|
delight in eating at his favorite restaurant, Whataburger; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his unfailing devotion to duty, honor, and |
|
this country, Sergeant Bryan Burgess upheld the highest ideals of |
|
the United States Army, and those who were blessed to share in the |
|
richness of his life will forever carry him close in their hearts; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of U.S. Army Staff |
|
Sergeant Bryan Burgess and extend sincere condolences to the |
|
members of his family: to his wife, Tiffany Burgess; to his |
|
children, Makya and Zander Burgess; to his mother and stepfather, |
|
Linda and Randy Pearce; to his father and stepmother, Randy and |
|
Elisabeth Burgess; to his sister, Brandi Burgess; to his |
|
grandparents, Joy and Jimmy Medley, Doris and Chal Burgess, and |
|
George Pearce; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sergeant |
|
Burgess. |
