R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Irving Heritage Society and the local |
|
community are gathering on May 22, 2011, to celebrate the |
|
dedication of a historical marker at the Heritage Park depot; and |
|
WHEREAS, The expansion of the Rock Island Railroad played a |
|
vital role in Irving's development, and a rail depot was one of the |
|
first buildings established in the town; though the original is no |
|
longer standing, the Heritage Society worked to acquire and restore |
|
a similar structure, which served as the station for the cities of |
|
Clinton and Nevada during the late 1890s and early 1900s; and |
|
WHEREAS, Located in Heritage Park, the facility was dedicated |
|
in memory of Irving's early settlers in November 1988; the |
|
initiative was made possible in part by the efforts of Pete |
|
Fernandez, Carol Susat, Marge Parrish, George Edwin, Peggy Duvall, |
|
Donald Peck, Catherine Schulze, Robert Sale, Earle Ayles, Jim |
|
Dunkley, Jim and May Tom Ripp, and Billie Myers; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the Heritage Park depot is a popular local |
|
attraction for residents and visitors alike, and the placement of a |
|
historical marker will help to preserve Irving's rich history as a |
|
railroad town; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the historical |
|
marker at the Heritage Park depot and commend the members of the |
|
Irving Heritage Society for bringing this project to fruition; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
