H.R. No. 196
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         
  WHEREAS, Steven Patrick Kanaly, an esteemed Houston
 
  businessman and philanthropist, died on January 11, 2011, at the
 
  age of 57; and
         
         WHEREAS, Born to E. Deane and Virginia Lee Kanaly in Oklahoma
 
  City on August 9, 1953, Steven Kanaly moved to Houston with his
 
  family as a child; he graduated from Westchester Senior High School
 
  and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in business
 
  administration from The University of Texas at Austin in 1976; and
         
         WHEREAS, Soon after his return to Houston, Mr. Kanaly joined
 
  his father's newly formed company, Kanaly Trust, where he started
 
  out as a financial advisor; he later served as the company's
 
  president and vice chair, and he continued to sit on the board of
 
  directors following his retirement in 2008; and
         
         WHEREAS, Widely respected within his profession, Mr. Kanaly
 
  led the board of directors of the National Association of Personal
 
  Financial Advisors; he also worked with the Houston Estate and
 
  Financial Forum, the Houston Business and Estate Planning Council,
 
  and the Financial Planning Association; he was listed multiple
 
  times by Worth magazine as one of the nation's best financial
 
  advisors and by Medical Economics magazine as one of the 150 best
 
  financial advisors for doctors, and he regularly shared his
 
  expertise in the local and national financial press; and
         
         WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mr. Kanaly found
 
  time to contribute to his community, participating in many
 
  charitable and community efforts and generously supporting such
 
  causes as the American Heart Association, Texas Children's
 
  Hospital, Houston Symphony, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and
 
  American Cancer Society; he was a member of the River Oaks Breakfast
 
  Club and a facilitator for the Greater Houston Partnership CEO
 
  Roundtable; and
         
         WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father and a treasured friend
 
  to many, Steven Kanaly made an indelible impression on the hearts of
 
  all who were privileged to share in his life, and he will forever be
 
  remembered with deepest respect and affection; now, therefore, be
 
  it
         
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Steven Patrick Kanaly
 
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
 
  wife of 21 years, Vicki C. Kanaly; to his mother, Virginia Lee
 
  Kanaly; to his children, Kourtney Louise Kanaly and Kamden Deane
 
  Kanaly, and their mother, Becky Page; to his brother, Jeffrey
 
  Kanaly, his wife, Debra, and their children, Morgan and Chase
 
  Kanaly; to his brother, Andrew Kanaly, his children, Virginia Lee
 
  Kanaly and William Gray Kanaly, and their mother, Lisa W. Kanaly;
 
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Steven
 
  Patrick Kanaly.
