| WHEREAS, Lamesa Municipal Airport was honored as the Airport | ||
| of the Year at the 35th annual Texas Aviation Conference hosted by | ||
| the Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division in April | ||
| 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Situated on 91 acres in Dawson County, Lamesa | ||
| Municipal Airport provides support to area agribusinesses, | ||
| correctional facilities, law enforcement agencies, and rangeland | ||
| firefighting services and also hosts flight training, commercial | ||
| enterprises, and recreational flying operations; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In 2016, the airport constructed a new | ||
| 1,900-square-foot terminal building through funding from a local | ||
| foundation and installed an automated weather observation system | ||
| through a TxDOT grant; the facility plans to further improve its | ||
| infrastructure by partnering with the State of Texas to complete a | ||
| pavement rehabilitation project; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Lamesa Municipal Airport plays an essential role in | ||
| the regional transportation system while also contributing | ||
| significantly to the local economy and supporting critical public | ||
| safety functions, and it is truly a fitting choice for this | ||
| prestigious award; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Lamesa Municipal Airport on its | ||
| selection as the 2017 Airport of the Year by the Texas Department of | ||
| Transportation Aviation Division and extend to the facility's | ||
| management and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; | ||
| and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the airport as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
