WHEREAS, His Excellency Ramon Gil-Casares, Spain's | ||
ambassador to the United States, is visiting the Texas State | ||
Capitol, and he is indeed deserving of special recognition for his | ||
notable achievements; and | ||
WHEREAS, A native of Madrid, Ambassador Gil-Casares holds | ||
degrees in philosophy and law, as well as a diploma in international | ||
studies from the Diplomatic School of Madrid; he has also served as | ||
a second lieutenant in the Spanish infantry; and | ||
WHEREAS, After joining the Foreign Service in 1982, | ||
Ambassador Gil-Casares worked at the Spanish embassies in | ||
Equatorial Guinea and Uruguay, the Spanish consulates in Manila and | ||
New York, and the Spanish Agency for International Development | ||
Cooperation in Madrid; from 1996 to 2002, he was the director of the | ||
Department for International Affairs and Defense of the President's | ||
Office; in 2002, he became secretary of state for foreign affairs, | ||
and from 2004 to 2005, he worked at the German Marshall Fund of the | ||
United States in Washington, D.C.; and | ||
WHEREAS, This distinguished diplomat was appointed | ||
ambassador to South Africa from 2005 to 2008 and to Sudan from 2011 | ||
to 2012; he also served as ambassador-at-large for Africa before | ||
taking on his new duties as the ambassador to the United States in | ||
April 2012; and | ||
WHEREAS, The visit of Ambassador Gil-Casares to Austin | ||
represents a fitting opportunity to celebrate the long-standing | ||
ties of history, culture, and language that link Spain and Texas; | ||
now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | ||
Legislature hereby welcome Ambassador Ramon Gil-Casares to the | ||
State Capitol and extend to him sincere best wishes for a memorable | ||
stay in the Lone Star State; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Ambassador Gil-Casares as an expression of high regard | ||
by the Texas House of Representatives. | ||
