R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of Cynthia Kincannon Merritt of Allen, who died on August |
|
8, 2020, at the age of 82; and |
|
WHEREAS, Cynthia Kincannon was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, |
|
on August 15, 1937, to Dewey and Vera Kincannon, and she graduated |
|
from Enid High School in 1955; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1954, she married Richard Merritt, and the couple |
|
shared a loving relationship that spanned 65 years, until his |
|
death; they were the parents of four children, and their family |
|
eventually grew to include many grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Merritt followed her husband to San Diego as he |
|
served in the U.S. Navy and, after his discharge, to Norman, |
|
Oklahoma; during his 13 years with Texas Instruments, the family |
|
lived in Dallas, Austin, and Houston; working for several different |
|
employers and sometimes for themselves, they went on to live again |
|
in Dallas, and in Plano, Flower Mound, and Two Rivers, Wisconsin, |
|
before retiring to Lucas, Texas; Mrs. Merritt enjoyed traveling |
|
with her husband following their retirement, and she loved reading |
|
to her grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of strong religious conviction, |
|
Mrs. Merritt was active in her local church wherever she lived; in |
|
Plano, she was the financial secretary of Central Baptist Church, |
|
and at Berean Baptist Church in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, she taught a |
|
class for girls and served in the outreach ministry; in Lucas, she |
|
was active with First Baptist Church of Fairview; and |
|
WHEREAS, Cynthia Merritt lived a rich and purposeful life |
|
dedicated to her family and her faith, and she enriched the lives of |
|
all those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Cynthia Kincannon |
|
Merritt and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: |
|
to her children, Cynthia Bagley and her husband, Randy, Brian |
|
Merritt, Lori Merritt, and Keith Merritt and his wife, Carole |
|
Caver; to her grandchildren, Angela and Rob, Rachel and Luke, Amber |
|
and John, Jonathan and Jessica, Andrew, Elisa and Adam, and |
|
Courtney; to her great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Tony, Megan and |
|
Jack, Linda and Eva May, Caleb and Bailey, and Annie Mae and Austin; |
|
to her sister, Sharon Parker, and her husband, Allen; and to her |
|
many other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Cynthia |
|
Merritt. |
