| WHEREAS, National Mental Health Month is observed each May to | ||
| raise awareness among Americans about mental illness and related | ||
| issues; and | ||
| WHEREAS, It is estimated that nearly one out of every five | ||
| people in the United States live with a mental health condition; | ||
| while millions of people across the country are affected, few seek | ||
| treatment because of the stigma associated with mental illness and | ||
| because they lack knowledge about where to go for help; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mental Health America has sponsored National Mental | ||
| Health Month since 1949, reaching out to communities to educate | ||
| people about the important role that mental health plays in their | ||
| overall state of well-being; through local events, screenings, and | ||
| media outreach, the initiative makes helpful information publicly | ||
| available and easily accessible; and | ||
| WHEREAS, One of the nation's leading organizations focused on | ||
| this vital issue, Mental Health America places a special emphasis | ||
| on prevention services, early identification, and intervention; | ||
| its goal is to help individuals at risk for mental illness to get | ||
| help long before their problems become critical; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A wide range of beneficial resources exists to help | ||
| individuals who struggle with mental illness, and the educational | ||
| campaign taking place during National Mental Health Month is | ||
| furthering the worthwhile effort to get assistance to those in | ||
| need; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby recognize May 2022 as National Mental Health | ||
| Month and encourage all Texans to learn more about mental health | ||
| issues. | ||
