R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Those Texans who demonstrate great courage in times |
|
of crisis are truly deserving of our admiration and gratitude, and |
|
through his selfless actions during the Texas Panhandle wildfire |
|
outbreak of 2017, Frank Moya of Shamrock has distinguished himself |
|
as one such hero; and |
|
WHEREAS, A county employee who operates a road grader in |
|
Precinct 4, Frank Moya is the father of James Moya, a member of the |
|
Shamrock Volunteer Fire Department; on March 23, 2017, the elder |
|
Mr. Moya and his fellow county workers received a call from the fire |
|
department for assistance in creating barriers to contain a |
|
wildfire that had broken out west of Shamrock; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Moya's son, James, was operating his own road |
|
grader at the scene of the fire; while the younger Mr. Moya was |
|
working to create a firebreak, the wind shifted and his grader |
|
stalled, stranding him in the path of the flames; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hearing his son's pleas for help on the radio, Frank |
|
Moya was consumed with a single imperative, that of getting him out |
|
alive; while other firefighters searched frantically for the young |
|
man, Mr. Moya was able to find his son and move him to safety; James |
|
Moya had sustained severe burns and subsequently spent 60 days in |
|
the Lubbock Burn Unit, during which time his father never left his |
|
side; and |
|
WHEREAS, In a situation fraught with peril, this devoted |
|
father proved himself a man of outstanding bravery and tenacity, |
|
and his actions in saving the life of his son have earned him the |
|
heartfelt gratitude of his entire community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Frank Moya for |
|
rescuing James Moya from a wildfire and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Moya family as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
