R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Centenarian Jack Tolbert of Keller is celebrating |
|
his 80th year as a pilot in 2019; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on August 16, |
|
1918, Mr. Tolbert learned to fly in 1939 as a member of the |
|
U.S. government's Civilian Pilot Training Program; the following |
|
year, he became a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as an |
|
instructor for other young pilots; and |
|
WHEREAS, After leaving the military, Mr. Tolbert worked as a |
|
commercial pilot for American Airlines, and he rose to the rank of |
|
captain before retiring in 1978; he then went on to serve as |
|
director of training and procedures for Southwest Airlines; and |
|
WHEREAS, Well into his 100th year, this dynamic gentleman |
|
continues to fly regularly in his Piper Cherokee aircraft; he is one |
|
of the world's oldest active pilots; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Tolbert enjoys the love |
|
and support of his wife, Velma Guy, as well as that of his three |
|
sons, Scott, Dale, and Morgan; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jack Tolbert is an inspiration to people of all ages |
|
for his skill, his joie de vivre, and his boundless energy, and he |
|
is indeed deserving of special recognition at this time; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jack Tolbert on his 80th |
|
anniversary as a pilot and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness and blue skies; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Tolbert as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
