| WHEREAS, Rodrigo Estrada, a 2017 Fabens High School graduate, | ||
| has been awarded a QuestBridge National College Match scholarship; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, This prestigious scholarship is awarded to high | ||
| school seniors from low-income families who demonstrate academic | ||
| excellence; recipients gain admission to some of the most selective | ||
| universities in the country, with tuition and room and board fully | ||
| covered for four years; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Rodrigo Estrada graduated as valedictorian of his | ||
| class at Fabens High School, and in addition to compiling an | ||
| impressive academic record, he distinguished himself by holding a | ||
| host of leadership positions on campus; he served as president of | ||
| his class, the National Speech and Debate Honor Society, the Tri-M | ||
| Music Honor Society, the Current Events and Politics Club, and the | ||
| National Social Studies Honor Society, and also as head drum major | ||
| for the marching band; and | ||
| WHEREAS, An incoming freshman at the University of Chicago, | ||
| Mr. Estrada plans to study political science and economics; after | ||
| completing his education, he hopes to pursue a career as a human | ||
| rights attorney; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A most deserving recipient, Rodrigo Estrada has | ||
| exhibited impressive drive and ability as he works toward his | ||
| scholastic and personal goals, and he may indeed look forward to a | ||
| future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Rodrigo | ||
| Estrada on his receipt of a QuestBridge National College Match | ||
| scholarship and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued | ||
| success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Mr. Estrada as an expression of high regard by the | ||
| Texas House of Representatives. | ||
