R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Rice University was named to Forbes magazine's |
|
inaugural list of New Ivies in 2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, The New Ivies list recognizes 10 public and 10 |
|
private universities that attract high-achieving students and |
|
produce smart, driven graduates who are sought after by employers |
|
of all types; after disqualifying Ivy League schools with fewer |
|
than 4,000 students, the more than 1,700 eligible colleges were |
|
evaluated based on standardized test scores, admissions |
|
selectivity, and hiring manager surveys; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in October 1912, Rice University is a |
|
globally oriented private institution located on 300 acres in |
|
Houston; with an enrollment of over 8,800 undergraduate and |
|
graduate students, the university boasts an impressive 6-to-1 |
|
undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio and consistently ranks |
|
highly among private universities for best quality of life and best |
|
value; moreover, Rice encourages its students to become |
|
contributing members of the workforce and community through |
|
academically challenging classes, projects, residential colleges, |
|
leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and experiential |
|
learning, and its faculty and alumni have made significant |
|
contributions in numerous fields; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than a century, Rice University has |
|
diligently prepared students with the highest standards of |
|
knowledge, skill, and professionalism, and the institution is |
|
indeed deserving of this prestigious recognition; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Rice University on being named to |
|
Forbes magazine's list of New Ivies and extend to all those |
|
associated with the university sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
