R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family owned and operated businesses strengthen the |
|
economy and culture of Texas communities, and in 2019, the Barrios |
|
family is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Los Barrios |
|
Restaurant in San Antonio; and |
|
WHEREAS, Los Barrios was founded by Viola Barrios in 1979 as a |
|
way to provide for her family after the passing of her husband, |
|
Jose; she opened the restaurant in an old boathouse, offering a |
|
variety of "casero style" Mexican dishes; over the years, Los |
|
Barrios has become a favorite among local patrons, and it has also |
|
earned national media recognition, appearing on Good Morning |
|
America, The Today Show, and a number of programs on the Food |
|
Network; in addition, the business has been featured on the Travel |
|
Channel, NPR, PBS, the BBC, and Telemundo International, as well as |
|
in many print publications, including Texas Monthly, Southern |
|
Living, Esquire, and the New York Times; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Los Barrios remains a family affair, with |
|
Viola Barrios's son, Louis Barrios, serving as president and CEO, |
|
her daughter, Diana Barrios Trevino, and her husband, Roland, |
|
serving as vice presidents, and her granddaughter, Analie Van |
|
Sciver, serving as director of human resources; the Barrios family |
|
also owns several other restaurants, a catering business, a |
|
boutique, and Viola's Huge Heart Foundation, a nonprofit that aims |
|
to help women achieve their goals by providing them with |
|
educational scholarships; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of four decades, Los Barrios has |
|
become a signature San Antonio enterprise, and the members of the |
|
Barrios family may take great pride in their legacy of success as |
|
they celebrate this special milestone; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of Los Barrios |
|
Restaurant and extend to all those associated with the business |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Barrios family as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
