R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Sue Melton of Waco was sworn in as a member of the |
|
Texas State Board of Education on January 30, 2013, in Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Elected to serve as the District 14 representative, |
|
Ms. Melton has been named vice chair of the board's committee on |
|
instruction; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Melton will draw on 36 years of experience as a |
|
public school teacher in Texas; she has taught in the Ross and West |
|
school districts and received the Golden Apple Award for Teaching |
|
Excellence; Ms. Melton first worked with children through her |
|
church's vacation Bible school and day-care center, and she earned |
|
a bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in a number of organizations, Ms. Melton has |
|
served as president of the Association of Texas Professional |
|
Educators and has been elected to the second vice president |
|
position in the Waco-McLennan County Retired Teachers Association |
|
and to the state nominating committee in the Texas Retired Teachers |
|
Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, She serves the greater community as the worship |
|
leader and choir director at Primrose Drive Baptist Church and also |
|
volunteers with youth groups; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her career as an educator, Sue Melton has |
|
demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing young Texans |
|
with a sound academic foundation on which to build, and the |
|
experience and insight she has gained in the classroom will serve |
|
her well in her new post; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Sue Melton on her election to the |
|
Texas State Board of Education and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for a successful tenure; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Melton as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
