| proposing a constitutional amendment establishing the rights of | ||
| parents to direct the upbringing of their children. | ||
| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 36 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 36. The liberty of a parent to direct the upbringing of | ||
| the parent's child is a fundamental right. This right includes the | ||
| right to direct the care, custody, control, education, moral and | ||
| religious training, and medical care of the child. | ||
| SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
| submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2023. | ||
| The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
| proposition: "The constitutional amendment establishing the | ||
| rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children." | ||
