| proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing school district | ||
| maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes. | ||
| BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 1-e-1 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1-e-1. Notwithstanding any other law, beginning on | ||
| January 1, 2021, a political subdivision of this state may not levy | ||
| an ad valorem tax for the purpose of maintaining an efficient system | ||
| of public free schools. | ||
| SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | ||
| submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 6, 2018. | ||
| The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | ||
| proposition: "The constitutional amendment to abolish school | ||
| district maintenance and operations ad valorem taxes beginning on | ||
| January 1, 2021, in order that the legislature may enact a fairer | ||
| system of fully funding public education." | ||
