HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may |
|
temper the sorrow felt at the death of Jacinto Romo of El Paso on |
|
June 15, 2013, at the age of 89; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of El Paso, Jay Romo grew up on the city's |
|
south side as one of eight children; he served his country in the |
|
United States Army during World War II, and he was awarded the |
|
Silver Star for his valor in the capture of more than 100 German |
|
soldiers near Montepiano, Italy, an event that led to a break in the |
|
enemy defense line; in addition, he drove an amphibious vehicle, |
|
transporting troops and supplies from ship to shore under fire, |
|
when his unit landed at Anzio, and he earned two Purple Hearts and a |
|
Bronze Star; and |
|
WHEREAS, This patriotic Texan was discharged from the 53rd |
|
Quartermaster Battalion in November 1945 and went on to pursue a |
|
career in the insurance industry; he started out selling policies |
|
and eventually operated his own agency; later, he switched to |
|
retail and sold furniture until his retirement in 1984; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the well-being of his fellow |
|
veterans, Mr. Romo was very active in the Military Order of the |
|
Purple Heart and helped others navigate the Veterans Administration |
|
system; his many accolades included the Michael Petricko Volunteer |
|
Service Officer Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Romo shared a fulfilling marriage with his wife, |
|
Aurora, before her passing; the devoted father of Gilbert, Patrick, |
|
and Bernadette, he also took great pride in his 16 grandchildren and |
|
22 great-grandchildren; he was a member of the Catholic Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Brave, resolute, and compassionate, Jay Romo left an |
|
unmistakable imprint on the world as he moved through it, and those |
|
who were fortunate enough to know him will long remember his |
|
contributions to his country and his community; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas, |
|
2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Jacinto Romo |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
sons, Gilbert and Patrick Romo; to his daughter, Bernadette |
|
Gutierrez, and her husband, Mike; to his grandchildren and |
|
great-grandchildren; to his sisters, Ernestina Romo Newton, Rosa |
|
M. Romo Sanchez and her husband, Reynaldo, Concepcion Romo Colon, |
|
and Martha Roa Callaway; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory |
|
of Jacinto Romo. |
