HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  death of Gerald Glen Bawcum of Paris, Texas, on August 12, 2012, at
  the age of 74; and
         WHEREAS, Jerry Bawcum was born on April 22, 1938, in
  Holladay, Tennessee, to James Glen and Ann Woods Bawcum; he grew up
  in Chicago, and after graduating from high school, he served in the
  U.S. Army for three years; and
         WHEREAS, In 1960, Mr. Bawcum was joined in matrimony to
  Judith Ann Stark, and they shared a loving relationship that was
  ended only by his death; together they were blessed with four
  children, Diana, Glen, Matt, and Andrea, and eight grandchildren;
  and
         WHEREAS, A successful automobile dealer for four decades, Mr.
  Bawcum and his wife opened the Bawcum Motor Company in Idabel,
  Oklahoma, in 1973; he went on to own dealerships all across
  southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas, and in 1989, he opened
  Toyota of Paris with his sons Glen and Matt; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bawcum was an active member of Our Lady of
  Victory Catholic Church, serving as a lector and volunteering with
  the St. Vincent de Paul Society; he was also active with St.
  Joseph's Community Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and Agape House;
  and
         WHEREAS, Jerry Bawcum loved reading and traveling, and he
  delighted in preparing meals for his family and friends; he
  expressed his competitive spirit with rousing games of tennis,
  softball, and cards, and after resisting it for years, took up golf
  and learned to love that as well; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, his faith, and his community,
  Jerry Bawcum lived life to the fullest, and those who were
  privileged to know him will forever treasure their memories of his
  warmth and joie de vivre; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas,
  2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Gerald Glen
  Bawcum and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:
  to his wife of 52 years, Judith Bawcum; to his children, Diana
  McDonald and her husband, John, Glen Bawcum and his wife, Tracy,
  Matt Bawcum and his wife, LeAnna, and Andrea Irwin and her husband,
  Walt; to his grandchildren, Amanda Irwin, Kristen Richmond and her
  husband, Jared, Alec Bawcum, Kyle Bawcum, Andi Bawcum, Marc Bawcum,
  Nick Irwin, and Chandler Bawcum; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Gerald Glen Bawcum.
